Blog: PhotoPass Basics

Generic PhotoPass Information:

Disney’s PhotoPass is a complementary photography service available to all Disney park guests. Disney PhotoPass photographers are situated at designated and pre-determined locations around the theme parks, including both of the Disney water parks. Photographers are also sometimes located at Disney Resorts. The location of PhotoPass photographers can be found on the park guide-map as locations can change. We have also made a generic list of locations on our website (coming soon!) but please do not primarily rely on this!

PhotoPass is free to all park guests to use, PhotoPass photographers are happy to take as many photos as you like – there is no limit to the number of photos you can have taken. The only charge is if you wish to purchase any of the images taken – but you can still have them taken, and you can view them for free! When the photos are taken, the photographer will scan your RFID ticket media, whether this is a card or a MagicBand. Once the photographer uploads the photos for the day (usually within 12 hours), your photos are automagically uploaded to your MyDisneyPhotoPass account. This can be accessed by going to https://mydisneyphotopass.disney.go.com/ - your login for this service is the same as your MyDisneyExperience account used to book FastPass+ reservations etc. Once logged in and the photos linked, you can then view your photos online, whether this be from a phone, tablet or computer. If you do not have access to a device during your vacation, you can go to the in-park guest services who can show you your photos – in the Magic Kingdom, at Town Square Hall, there is a dedicated PhotoPass viewing location.

PhotoPass photographers are also happy to take photos using your own camera, just ask politely and they will happily take photos for you. The benefit of either using the PhotoPass service, or asking photographers to take the photos, is that all members of your party are in the photo!

Magic Shots & Animations

As part of the developing PhotoPass service, Magic Shots are now offered. The are overlays which the photographer will add to your photo. Some examples of these magic shots are; Tinkerbell standing on your hand, Mickey balloons and Stitch breaking through the floor! Photographers will ask you to do various poses or actions, from which the Magic Shots are created! The newest addition to the Magic Shots library is the animated photographs. Normal photographs are taken and a short animated clip is overlaid. These are very effective and something different, which hasn’t been offered before, only launching late in 2014. See below for a couple of examples:

On-Ride Photos and Videos

A number of popular attractions at Walt Disney World offer on-ride photos. As part of the PhotoPass service, these photos can be linked to your MyDisneyPhotoPass account for free – and can be viewed for free. Purchase of these photos costs though. The attractions which offer photos are; Space Mountain (MK), Splash Mountain (MK), Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin (MK), Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (MK), Test Track (E), Dinosaur (AK), Expedition Everest (AK), Tower of Terror (HS). If you are wearing an active MagicBand, your on-ride photos will link automagically. If you only have RFID tickets, then there are touchpoints below the viewing screens at the exit of the attractions. The only attraction that doesn’t have touchpoint’s, and therefore is MagicBand only, is Seven Dwarfs Mine Train – this is because the it does not have photo viewing locations, or a shop...

The newest addition is the launch of on-ride videos. Currently, both Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Tower of Terror have on-ride videos. These are linked automatically to your account, and are downloadable if you have the Memory Maker package. See below for a couple of YouTube videos of sample on-ride videos!

Memory Maker

If you wish to receive a digital download of all PhotoPass photos, including on-ride photos, then the Memory Maker photo package might be for you. Once you return from your vacation, you are able to download .jpeg versions of all PhotoPass photos taken. You also receive the licence to re-produce your photos and get them printed yourself. This is a great way to capture the memory, and is especially worthwhile if you plan on having lots of photos taken! The Memory Maker package is $169 if purchased more than 3 days in advance of your vacation, or $199 if purchased in-park during your vacation.

PhotoPass Overview

PhotoPass is certainly a good Disney service to make full use of. It is a great way to get photos with all the family, and is definitely worth spending the time getting the photos taken! Memory Maker is a fabulous way to take home your memories, and is definitely worthwhile if you are planning on having a lot of photos taken, or plan on riding those attractions with on-ride photos and videos.
