In a new 15 year agreement, Reedy Creek and Duke Energy hasve agreed to build, own and operate a solar power facility, operating at 5 megawatts, and serving the area of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, thus providing solar power for Walt Disney World. Over 48,000 panels will be used on the 20 acre site situated near World Drive and Epcot Center Drive. The panels are to be arranged, in true Disney fashion, in a Disney-inspired formation.

"We are committed to working with customers to expand their use of renewable energy," said Alex Glenn, president, Duke Energy Florida. "This opportunity to serve the Reedy Creek Improvement District is another example of how we are meeting our customers’ interests in renewable energy, while bringing more solar choices to Florida."

Construction on this new solar power plant is expected to begin later this summer, with the facility online by the end of the year.
