New Disney character policy comes under fire...

A union that represents Walt Disney World performers is challenging a new official policy forbidding performers from revealing online, or in print media, what characters they portray. The Walt Disney Company has long discouraged its entertainers and performers from advertising and telling people which character or princess they play at the theme parks. The company has no implemented an official policy outlining that employees are not to disclose online, on social media, print publications or TV, what character they play. Disney calls it “proprietary information”. Disney wants to ensure that nothing ruins the illusion that the characters have literally stepped out of the movie they are from. The previous rules stated that cast members would not allow themselves to be seen only wearing half of their costume (can you imagine Mickey without his head?! Or Rapunzel without her long blonde hair?!), nor that they would disclose to children that they are merely actors. It is unknown what the disciplinary action would be if members posted this information online, or a picture they had shared with a friend ended up online. The union also wonders if Disney entertainers would face disciplinary action if they used the information on their resumes or job applications for other entertaining jobs. Information from the Orlando Sentinel.
